Mahou Shoujo Site is by the same mangaka and based on the responses to it I can only presume it also sucks. I read most of Mahou Shoujo of the End and it started out as a good guilty pleasure but became straight up BAD by its second "season" and I still don't know if I want to finish it to this day. I read a bit of Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku and it was okay. However in my experiences it seems that most attempts to deconstruct the genre flop really hard. I don't know anything about Madoka other than the "deconstruction" debates it gets involved in. It was basically a more feminine style of a Battle Shounen except everyone all looked the same and I don't even remember 90% of the antagonists! (Which by the way, since most antagonists disintegrate when defeated, there's no hope of them becoming a Battle Shounen rival character later and being interesting) I read Sailor Moon the manga a while back and I honestly didn't like it. Despite being one of the most beloved and one of the most 'first-thing-that-people-think-of-when-they-think-of-anime' genres of anime, the Magical Girl genre seems to be kind of crap.Īs far as I know the ONLY Magical Girl anime with generally positive responses are Sailor Moon and Madoka. This has bothered me for quite some time.
